IMD sees heavy-to-very heavy rainfall over parts of northwest India till Tue

MUMBAI - A western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and adjoining Punjab is likely to cause heavy-to-very heavy rainfall over parts of northwest India till Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said.

 

Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh and Punjab till Saturday and Uttarakhand till Tuesday. The weather department expects heavy rainfall to continue in parts of Uttarakhand, and east Rajasthan during the next seven days. 

 

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over parts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday and other parts of the region during the next five days. The department has warned of moderate to high risk of flash floods for the next 24 hours in a few watersheds and neighbourhood of Himachhal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

 

There is an upper air cyclonic circulation over Vidharbha and neighbourhood in lower and middle tropospheric levels, tilting southwestwards. Under the influence of this weather system, heavy rainfall is expected over parts of west India during the next seven days, the department said. Light to moderate rainfall is very likely in the region during the next seven days.   

 

Extremely heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Gujarat for which the weather department has issued a red alert for the region for Friday. A red alert indicates rainfall exceeding 204.5 millimetres in 24 hours and is the highest level of weather warning. It said there is low to moderate risk of flash floods over a few watersheds and neighbourhoods of Gujarat region.  End
