India gets 30% above-normal rainfall at 9.6 mm Thursday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 9.6 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 30% above the normal of 7.4 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Since Jun. 1, the country has recorded 6% above-normal rainfall at 717.1 millimetres.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above-normal showers while the other two recorded below-normal rainfall. The southern peninsula recorded a whopping 318% above-normal rainfall at 21.3 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. Of the 10 subdivisions in the region, eight recorded "large excess" rainfall while the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Tamil Nadu-Puduchery-Karaikal region recorded "large deficient" showers.
Central India received 9.7 millimetres of rainfall, 3% above normal. Rainfall in northwest India was 39% below normal at 3.6 millimetres. In eastern and northeast India, rainfall was 30% below normal at 6.7 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Thursday was "large excess" in 11, "excess" in three, "normal" in six, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in nine subdivisions. End
