India gets 78% above normal rainfall Wednesday at 13.2 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 13.2 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday, 78% above the normal of 7.4 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Since Jun. 1, the country has recorded 5% above normal rainfall at 704.5 millimetres. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received above-normal showers while one recorded below-normal rainfall.

 

Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 290% above normal at 21.4 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. Five of the nine subdivisions in the region recorded "large excess" rainfall, east Rajasthan received "excess" rainfall and east Uttar Pradesh, west Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand recorded "large deficient" showers.

 

The southern peninsula recorded 12.1 millimetres of showers, 109% above the normal of 5.8 millimetres, the data showed. Central India received 10.4 millimetres of rainfall, 22% above normal. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 59% below normal at 4.4 millimetres.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall Wednesday was "large excess" in 11, "excess" in two, "normal" in eight, "deficient" in five and "large deficient" in 10 subdivisions.  End
