India gets 27% above normal rainfall Tuesday at 8.8 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 8.8 millimetres of rainfall Tuesday, 27% above the normal of 6.9 millimetres, the India Meteorological Department said. So far during the southwest monsoon season, the country has received 4% above-normal rainfall at 693.5 millimetres, the weather bureau said.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below-normal and one recorded above-normal rainfall Tuesday. Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 245% above normal at 18.3 millimetres, the data showed. Central India received 6.2 millimetres of rainfall, 18% below normal, while over east and northeast got 60% below normal at 4.1 millimetres. The southern peninsula recorded 63% below normal rainfall at 2.1 millimetres, data from the weather department showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Tuesday was "large excess" in nine subdivisions, of which six belonged to northwest India. Rainfall was "excess" in two, "normal" in four, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 14 subdivisions. One subdivision did not receive any rain Tuesday. End
