MUMBAI – The upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a low-pressure area over the region on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said Tuesday. The weather system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify during the next two days, it added.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and coastal Andhra Pradesh till Thursday, due to the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the weather bureau said. Parts of Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall for Tuesday. Very heavy rainfall is also likely over Telangana on Tuesday.
The weather department also said isolated heavy raifall is likely over Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Vidarbha during the next five days and over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from Wednesday to Saturday. Similar weather conditions are expected over a few more parts of east and central India. Light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning is likely over most parts of the region.
Meanwhile, the weather bureau said rainfall intensity is likely to reduce over northwest India from Wednesday. However, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over northwest India with extremely heavy falls over Jammu and northwest Punjab Tuesday. End
