India Sunday rainfall 69% above normal at 13 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI - India received 13 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 69% above the normal of 7.7 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. From Jun. 1 to Aug. 24, the country has received 674.2 millimetres rainfall, 4% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal rainfall on Sunday while the other two recorded above-normal showers.
Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 226% above normal at 18.9 millimetres, the data showed. Six out of the nine subdivisions in the region recorded "large excess" rainfall on Sunday, while east Uttar Pradesh received "normal" showers and west Uttar Pradesh and Punjab recorded "deficient" showers. Central India recorded 16 millimetres of rainfall, 84% above the normal of 8.7 millimetres.
Rainfall in the southern peninsula was 74% below normal at 1.6 millimetres, the data showed. East and northeast India received 9.4 millimetres of rainfall, which is 17% below normal, according to the data.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 14, "excess" in one, "normal" in five, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 10 subdivisions. End
