India gets 43% above normal rainfall at 10.9 mm on Saturday, says IMD

NEW DELHI – India received 10.9 millimetres of rainfall Saturday, 43% above the normal of 7.6 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the southwest monsoon season, the country has recorded 3% above-normal rainfall at 661.2 millimetres.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received above-normal showers and one recorded below-normal rainfall. Rainfall in northwest India was 79% above normal at 10.8 millimetres while that in eastern and northeast India was 55% above normal at 16.9 millimetres, the data showed. Central India received 13.0 millimetres of rainfall, 48% above normal. The southern peninsula recorded 55% below normal rain at 2.6 millimetres, data from the weather department showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Friday was "large excess" in nine subdivisions, "excess" in three, "normal" in four, "deficient" in eight, and "large deficient" in 12 subdivisions. End
