India July crude steel output up 14% on year, says World Steel Association

MUMBAI – Production of crude steel in India rose 14% on year to 14 million tonnes in July, according to data from the World Steel Association. India accounted for over 9% of the global steel output in July.

 

Global crude steel output in July fell over 1% on year to 150.1 million tonnes because of lower output in China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Germany, and Brazil. India, the US, Turkey, and Iran reported a rise in output among the top 10 steel-producing countries.


China, the world's largest steel producer, reported an output of 79.7 million tonnes last month, down 4% on year. The country accounted for more than 53% of global production. In Japan, crude steel output fell 2.5% on year to 6.9 million tonnes in July. Production in Russia is estimated to have fallen 2.4% to 5.7 million tonnes.

 

The US produced 7.1 million tonnes of steel in July, up nearly 5% on year. Steel output in Turkey was up over 4% at 3.2 million tonnes. Steel production in Germany declined around 14% to 2.7 million tonnes in July. Crude steel production in Brazil is estimated to have fallen 5.5% on year to 2.9 million tonnes while production in Iran rose around 30% on year to 2.2 million tonnes.

 

Global crude steel production in Jan-Jul fell nearly 2% on year to 1.1 billion tonnes while output in India jumped around 10% to 94.9 million tonnes in the same period.  End
