MUMBAI – The central board of the Reserve Bank of India will meet Friday to approve the appointment of Executive Director Indranil Bhattacharyya as a new member of the Monetary Policy Committee, among other matters, the Business Standard newspaper reported Friday.

Bhattacharyya will replace Executive Director Rajiv Ranjan in the rate-setting panel as one of the three internal members, the newspaper reported. The RBI allocated the Monetary Policy Department to Bhattacharyya last week, suggesting that the MPC could see a new member at its October meeting. The Monetary Policy Department was previously allocated to Ranjan, currently the third ex-officio member of the MPC. The MPC's fourth meeting of FY26 will be held from Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

Ranjan will superannuate by the end of September, the newspaper reported. Ranjan was the executive director in-charge of the Monetary Policy Department and a MPC member since May 2022. Bhattacharyya, who has recently been allocated the Monetary Policy Department, was appointed as executive director in March and was allocated the Department of Economic and Policy Research. End
