India gets 19% above-normal rainfall at 9.0 mm on Thursday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 9.0 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 19% above the normal of 7.6 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the southwest monsoon season, the country has recorded 2% above-normal rainfall at 641.7 millimetres.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, one received above-normal showers and three recorded below-normal rainfall. The southern peninsula recorded 62% below normal rain at 2.1 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. Rainfall in northwest India was 19% below normal at 4.6 millimetres while that in eastern and northeast India was 7% below normal at 10.1 millimetres, the data showed. Central India received 16.7 millimetres of rainfall, 87% above normal.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Thursday was "large excess" in six, of which five were in central India. Rainfall was "excess" in seven subdivisions, "normal" in three, "deficient" in 10, and "large deficient" in 10 subdivisions. End
