Fin min holds review meeting of PSU banks, urges them to improve credit

NEW DELHI – Department of Financial Services Secretary M. Nagaraju held a financial performance review meeting of public sector banks on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by heads of all the public sector banks including State Bank of India Chairman Challa Sreenivasulu Setty and other senior officials of the banking department.

 

During the meeting, June quarter financial results of the public sector banks were assessed. Collectively, the 12 public sector banks, including SBI, reported a net profit of INR 442 billion in Apr-Jun, up 10.6% on year. Public-sector banks collectively posted a record net profit of INR 1.78 trillion for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), up 26%.

 

Nagaraju also asked the banks to step-up lending to job-oriented sectors and micro, small and medium enterprises, sources said. They also said that the banks have been asked to improve their margins and boost current account and savings account in the coming quarters.  End
