MUMBAI – India received 9.8 millimetres of rainfall Wednesday, 22% above the normal of 8.0 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. So far in the southwest monsoon season, the country recorded 2% above normal rainfall at 632.7 millimetres. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, one received above-normal showers and three recorded below-normal rainfall.
The southern peninsula recorded 22% below normal rain at 4.7 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. Rainfall in northwest India was 29% below normal at 4.1 millimetres while that in eastern and northeast India was 37% below normal at 6.9 millimetres, the data showed. Central India received 19.3 millimetres of rainfall, 95% above normal.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall Wednesday was "large excess" in five, of which four were in central India. Rainfall was "excess" in seven subdivisions, "normal" in six, "deficient" in eight, and "large deficient" in 10 subdivisions. End
