MUMBAI – India and China have agreed to re-open border trade through three designated trading points, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a release Tuesday. The announcement follows China's Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi's official visit to India earlier in the week.

The three designated trading points for border trade to recommence are Lipulekh Pass, Shipki La Pass and Nathu La Pass, the release on the ministry's website said. In a meeting between Yi Wang and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, "both sides agreed to facilitate trade and investment flows between the two countries through concrete measures," the release said.

The two also agreed to resume direct flights between the Chinese mainland and India "at the earliest". India and China would also finalise an updated Air Services Agreement, the release added. They agreed upon granting visas to tourists, businesses, media and other visitors on both sides.

They also discussed cooperation over trans-border rivers, with focus on renewal of Memoranda of Understanding relevant to the India-China Expert Level Mechanism on Trans-border Rivers. The Chinese delegation agreed to share hydrological information with India during emergency situations, the release said. "...Stable, predictable, constructive ties between India and China will contribute significantly to regional as well as global peace and prosperity," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said after Yi's visit to India, in post on X.  End
