--MoS commerce: See $48.2 bln exports to US facing extra duty

NEW DELHI – Indian exports worth $48.2 billion are subject to extra tariffs in the US announced by the White House in the last two months, Minister of State for Commerce Jitin Prasada said Tuesday. Washington has already imposed a 25% reciprocal tariff on Indian goods and has announced a levy of another 25% from Aug. 27.

The government has taken note of tariff by the US, Prasada said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. India had exported $86.51 billion worth of goods to the US in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) and had a trade surplus of $40.82 billion.

The White House has exempted products from some sectors--pharma, energy, electronics--from the additional duty. Earlier this month, the finance ministry had said that 55% of goods exported to the US would attract extra duty.  End
