--Cabinet OKs INR 15.07 bln for new airport in Kota-Bundi Rajasthan
NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet Tuesday cleared a proposal to develop a greenfield airport at Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan at an estimated cost of INR 15.07 billion. The Rajasthan government is providing 1.089 acres of land free of cost for the purpose, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a press briefing after the Cabinet meeting.
The existing airport in Kota, owned by the Airports Authority of India, can only accomodate small aircraft and handle 50 passengers during peak hours. According to a government release, it cannot be developed for commercial operations due to inadequate land availability and urbanisation around the airport.
The new facility will include a terminal building spanning 20,000 square metre with a capacity to handle 1,000 passengers at peak hours. On an annual basis, the airport will have the capacity to handle two million passengers. It will house a 3,200-metre runway, apron with seven parking bays for A-321 type aircraft, two link taxiways, an air traffic control-cum-technical block, a fire station, and car park. The project is expected to be completed in 24 months. End
