India received 18% above normal rainfall at 9.7 mm on Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 9.7 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 18% above the normal of 8.2 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received below-normal rainfall on Sunday while the other two recorded above-normal showers.
Rainfall in central India was 60% above normal at 15.2 millimetres, the data showed. The southern peninsula recorded 10.0 millimetres of rainfall, 54% above the normal of 6.5 millimetres. East and northeast India received 4.6 millimetres of rainfall, which is 58% below normal, according to the data. In northwest India, rainfall was 3% below normal at 6.0 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 11, "excess" in seven, "normal" in four, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in eight subdivisions. From Jun. 1 to Aug. 17, the country has received 600.3 millimetres of rainfall, 1% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed. End
