India rainfall at 8.7 mm on Friday, 3% above normal, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 8.7 millimetres of rainfall Friday, 3% above the normal of 8.4 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. With this, India has so far received 581.5 mm of rainfall in the current season started Jun. 1, described by the IMD as normal.
Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received above-normal showers Friday, while one recorded below-normal rainfall.
The southern peninsula recorded 8.6 millimetres of rainfall, 40% above the normal of 6.1 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. Northwest region recorded 9.3 mm of rainfall Friday, 29% above the normal of 7.2 mm. Central India received 9.8 mm of rainfall, 7% more than the 9.2 mm of normal, while the east and northeast region got 5.1 mm rainfall, 57% below the normal of 11.8 mm, said the weather bureau.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Friday was "large excess" in 10, "excess" in four, "normal" in five, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in 10 subdivisions. End
