MUMBAI – Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. showcased concept designs for four new cars, which will be built on their new platform called NU_IQ. The company plans to begin launching these cars starting 2027 with an aim to grow presence in global markets, top company executives said at an event in Mumbai
The new platform will have a longer wheelbase and higher luggage space, the company said. Two of the four cars, called VISION.T and VISION.SXT, will have a length of 4.3 metres while two others, called VISION.S and VISION.X, will be sub-4 metres.
The management emphasised that NU_IQ platform for sport utililty vehicles will be brand new and will be competitive in the global market. With the four new cars, the company aims to increase its market share globally. Mahindra & Mahindra will target global markets of Europe, Australia, and South Africa, where it already has a presence. However, it was not looking to increase focus on US markets as of now, said Ashutosh Vidwans, chief financial officer of automotive division, at the sidelines of the event.
The management said the new cars will be a mix of both internal combustion engine and electric. They are yet to figure out further details such as whether these will be available in both options or it will be a mix. "Both options are on the table," Vidwans, said.
Thursday, shares of Mahindra & Mahindra closed at INR 3,265.40 on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.5%. Equity markets are closed Friday on account of Independence Day. End
