--PM Modi: To launch Sudarshan Chakra defence system for key infrastructure
NEW DELHI – At a time when technological advancements are helping India on the battlefield, it is important to expand and upgrade our defence capabilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Friday. In his address from Red Fort in Delhi on the 79th Independence Day, Modi said that over the next 10 years, India will secure all key infrastructure facilities with the help of technology.
In the 103-minute-long Independence Day speech, Modi said the defence system will draw cues Lord Krishna's Sudarshan Chakra. The mission Sudarshan Chakra will be a powerful weapon system that will neutralise enemy's attack, he said. The new defence system will also 'hit back' at enemy targets. The aim will be to continuously upgrade the defence mechanism so that India is always ahead of the curve, Modi said.
Modi said the government has decided to start a high-powered demography mission to tackle the issue of illegal immigration. He said a well-thought-out conspiracy is under way to change the country's demography and seeds of a new crisis are being sown. Illegal immigrants are snatching away the opportunities and livelihood from nation's youth, he said.
There is an immediate need to be self-reliant to fulfil our energy requirements, Modi added. He said a lot of Budgetary resources are provided for securing energy, which can otherwise be utilised for other social sector schemes. He also said National Critical Mineral Mission has been launched so that the country does not have to rely on others for the critical minerals. He announced the launch of the National Deepwater Exploration Mission to tap ocean resources, alongside major expansions in solar, hydrogen, hydro and nuclear power. "India will harness its deepwater energy resources, strengthening energy self-reliance and reducing dependence on foreign fuel imports," a government release said.
Modi said while the world debates global warming, India had resolved to achieve 50% clean energy by 2030. "Thanks to the commitment of its people, that goal was met by 2025," Modi said.
Modi also announced the formation of a task force for next-generation reforms that will evaluate all current laws, rules, and procedures related to economic activities. The Task Force will work within a set timeline to reduce compliance costs for startups, MSMEs, and entrepreneurs. It will also provide freedom from fear of arbitrary legal actions and ensure laws are streamlined for ease of doing business, a government release said. End
