MUMBAI – The Nifty Bank may continue its upward momentum into next week as analysts expect it to have bottomed out near the 55,000 level it touched last week on the back of weak earnings of most banks. The index is also expected to benefit from positive cues around the broader equity market due to India's sovereign rating upgrade, they said.

However, headwinds from tariff related news will remain in focus, analysts said. "Market focus has now shifted to the upcoming US–Russia meeting in Alaska, scheduled for tomorrow, with hopes that it could lead to a ceasefire and a reversal of the additional 25% tariff imposed on India," Bajaj Broking Research said in a note. "The index is expected to remain range-bound between 54,800 and 56,000, with a breakout beyond this band likely to define the next directional move," it said.

In its technical view, Kotak Securities said, "For Bank Nifty, after a long correction, it is witnessing range-bound activity. On the upside, above 55,700, it could rally towards the 20-day simple moving average, around 56,000 and 56,300. On the downside, below 55,000, selling pressure is likely to accelerate. If that level is breached, the index could slip towards 54,500-54,200."

The Nifty Bank index closed 0.3% higher Thursday at 55341.85 points, with its constituents ending mixed. IndusInd Bank's shares continued their downfall, falling 0.5% over Wednesday, while AU Small Finance Bank rose 1.7%. Shares of the small finance bank have been on the rise after receiving an in-principle approval from the Reserve Bank of India for a unversal banking licence.
