MUMBAI – Patanjali Foods Ltd. Thursday reported a 31% year-on-year fall in its net profit for the June quarter as the cost of raw materials rose sharply. The total expenses of the company rose more than the increase in revenue, both in percentage and absolute terms. A sharp rise in other expenses also contributed to the rise in total expenses, which rose 27% on year despite a fall in the purchase of stock-in-trade.

 

Patanjali reported a net profit of INR 1.80 billion for the June quarter, down 50% on quarter. The company's revenue from operations was INR 89.00 billion, up 24% on year but down 8% on quarter. The total income rose 24% on year to INR 89.13 billion. 

 

The company's total expenses rose to INR 86.64 billion, owing to the sharp rise in its cost of materials, which rose 43% to INR 61.39 billion. The company's finance cost rose 25% on year to INR 238 million and employee expenses increased 27% INR 1.48 billion. The company's purchase of stock-in-trade fell 33% on year to INR 13.69 billion, while other expenses increased 67% to INR 7.77 billion. 

 

The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation were INR 3.34 billion for the June quarter, down 23% on year. The company's EBITDA margin was 3.8%, down from 6.1% in the year-ago quarter.  

 

The company's revenue from the edible oil segment was INR 66.86 billion, up 25% on year. The revenue from the food and other fast-moving consumer goods segment was INR 16.61 billion, down 15% from the year-ago quarter. The revenue from the new home and personal care segment was INR 6.39 billion. Within the home and personal care segment, the dental care category generated revenues of INR 3.32 billion, the skincare category generated revenues of INR 1.57 billion and revenues from home care were INR 916 million.

 

The company said urban consumption patterns reflected a shift toward lower-priced or smaller packs, with many consumers opting for regional brands.

 

Thursday, shares of Patanjali Foods ended at INR 1764.80 on the National Stock Exchange, down 1.8%. The company announced its June quarter earnings after market hours.  End
