India gets 27% above normal rainfall at 11.2 mm Thursday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 11.2 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 27% above the normal of 8.8 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received above-normal showers and one recorded below-normal rainfall.

 

The southern peninsula recorded 14 millimetres of rainfall, a whopping 145% above the normal of 5.7 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. Central India received 11.2 millimetres of rainfall, 17% above normal. Rainfall in northwest India was 8% above normal at 8.5 millimetres, while that in eastern and northeast India was 1% below normal at 12.7 millimetres, the data showed.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Thursday was "large excess" in 12, "excess" in four, "normal" in eight, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in five subdivisions. One subdivision did not record any rainfall on Thursday. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 572.8 millimetres of rainfall, which is normal for the period, the data showed.  End
