MUMBAI – PNC Infratech Ltd. Wednesday reported a sharp on-year fall in its net profit for the June quarter as a 13% fall in expenses could not compensate for a 35% fall in revenue from operations. The company missed the Street's estimate for both revenue and net profit. Expenses fell primarily due to the significant decline in the cost of materials consumed.

The construction and engineering company reported a net profit of INR 807.73 million for the June quarter, down 81% on year and down 33% over the trailing quarter. The net profit was sharply lower than the analysts' estimate of INR 1.21 billion. PNC reported revenue from operations of INR 11.36 billion for the reporting quarter, down 35% on year and 20% on quarter. This resulted in a nearly 35% on-year fall in the company's total income to INR 11.47 billion. Analysts had expected the company to report a top line of INR 16.11 billion.

PNC's total expenditure for the June quarter was INR 10.37 billion, down nearly 13% on year and 20% over the trailing quarter, because of a more than 15% on-year fall in the cost of materials consumed, which fell to INR 8.24 billion. The cost of materials consumed accounted for 80% of the company's total expenditure for the reporting quarter.

Wednesday, shares of the company ended at INR 309.30 on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.8% from Tuesday. The company announced its earnings during market hours.  End
