India week to Wed rainfall 25% below normal at 46.2 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI - India received average rainfall of 46.2 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 25% below the normal of 61.7 millimetres for the week, according to the India Meteorological Department. Rainfall was above normal in one homogeneous region, below normal in two, and normal in one, the weather bureau said.
In central India, rainfall was 58% below normal at 31.7 millimetres during the week, data from the weather bureau showed. Rainfall was 41% above normal in south peninsular India at 66.0 millimetres. Rainfall was 31% below normal in northwest India at 34.2 millimetres. In east and northeast India, rainfall was normal at 75.7 millimetres.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in six, of which five sub-divisions belong to south Peninsula. Nine sub-divisions recorded "normal" showers, 13 received "deficient" and eight subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall during the week. Since Jun. 1, the country has received normal rainfall at 561.8 millimetres, as per the data. End
