India gets 3% below normal rainfall at 9.0 mm on Wednesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 9.0 millimetres rainfall Wednesday, 3% below the normal of 9.3 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above-normal showers and the other two recorded below-normal rainfall.
The southern peninsula recorded 13.4 millimetres of rainfall, a whopping 103% above the normal of 6.6 millimetres, data from the weather department showed. East and northeast India recieved 21.3 millimetres of rainfall, which is 63% above normal. Rainfall in northwest India was 71% below normal at 2.3 millimetres, while that in central India was 33% below normal at 6.8 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Wednesday was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in three, "normal" in four, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in 14 subdivisions. One subdivision did not record any rainfall on Wednesday. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 561.8 millimetres of rainfall, which is normal for the period, the data showed. End
