India gets 18% below normal rainfall at 7.1 mm Tuesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 7.1 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 18% below the normal of 8.7 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogenous regions in the country, two recorded above-normal showers while the other two received below-normal rainfall.
Northwest India recorded 11.6 millimetres of rainfall, 64% above the normal of 7.1 millimetres, according to the data. The southern peninsula received 8.4 millimetres of rainfall, which is 19% above normal. Rainfall in central India was 70% below normal at 2.9 millimetres while in east and northeast India it was 53% below normal at 5.9 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall Tuesday was "large excess" in eight, "excess" in two, "normal" in two, "deficient" in nine, and "large deficient" in 15, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 552.7 millimetres of rainfall, which is normal for the period, the data showed. End
