NEW DELHI – Reserve Bank of India Governor Sanjay Malhotra and deputy governors M. Rajeshwar Rao and Swaminathan J. participated in camps for saturation coverage of financial inclusion schemes. The camps are being held at the gram panchayat level by banks through the September quarter, and include redoing Know Your Customer authentication.

Malhotra visited a camp in Mehsana, Gujarat, Monday. Days after ICICI Bank Ltd. increased its minimum monthly average balance limit for savings accounts, Malhotra told television news channels on the sidelines of the visit that it is up to banks to decide on this limit and it is not in the regulatory domain.

"Addressing the participants on this occasion, Governor underscored the importance of greater collaboration among banks, RBI, and local communities to make banking services more accessible to all citizens and to improve the coverage of various financial inclusion schemes of the Government through these campaigns," according to an RBI release.

Rao visited a camp in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Friday. Swaminathan visited a camp in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, Saturday. The deputy governors asked customers to update their KYC details regularly for safe banking services. Senior RBI and state-owned bank officials accompanied the central bankers to the camps.  End
