MUMBAI – During the June quarter, Ashoka Buildcon Ltd. posted an on-year decline in both its top line and bottom line, and a substantial fall in its total expenses, especially in contruction expenses and input costs, which formed a lion's share. Both the top line and the bottom line also fell short of analysts' expectations, with the net profit falling in double-digits on an year-on-year basis.
The company reported a net profit of INR 306.2 million, down a sharp 25% on year and 49% on quarter, underperforming Street's estimate of INR 685 million. The company posted a top line of INR 13.11 billion, down 30% on year and down 34% on quarter. The company severely underperformed analysts' expectation of INR-18.40-billion revenue. The company's other income rose to INR 284.78 million from INR 237.21 million year ago.
Ashoka Buildcon's total expenses for the June quarter were at INR 12.96 billion, down 30% on year. The company's contruction expenses that accounts for 47% of its total expense were INR 6.15 billion, down 18% on year. The cost of materials consumed that accounts for 36% of total expense came in at INR 4.65 billion, down 47% on year. The company's operating margin for the latest quarter expanded by 286 basis points on year to 9.33%.
Monday, shares of Ashoka Buildcon closed at INR 183.89, down 4.3%, on the National Stock Exchange. The company declared its June quarter results post market hours. End
