India receives 21% below normal rainfall at 6.5 mm on Monday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 6.5 millimetres of rainfall on Monday, 21% below the normal of 8.3 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below normal showers while one recorded above normal rainfall.
The southern peninsula recorded 11.0 millimetres of rainfall, 69% above the normal of 6.5 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 56% below normal at 4.3 millimetres. Northwest India recorded 3.9 millimetres of rainfall, which is 36% below the normal. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 8% below normal at 10.9 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall on Monday was "large excess" in seven, "normal" in seven, "deficient" in seven, and "large deficient" in 15, data from the department showed. No sub-division recieved "excess" rainfall on Monday. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 545.6 millimetres of rainfall, which is normal for the period, the data showed. End
