India received 39% below normal rainfall at 5.3 mm on Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 5.3 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 39% below the normal of 8.7 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below-normal rainfall on Sunday while one recorded above-normal showers.

 

The southern peninsula recorded 9.6 millimetres of rainfall, 31% above the normal of 7.3 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 58% below normal at 4.4 millimetres. In northwest India, rainfall was 55% below normal at 3.0 millimetres. East and northeast India received 6.3 millimetres of rainfall, which is 39% below normal, according to the data.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in five, "excess" in one, "normal" in five, "deficient" in nine, and "large deficient" in 16 subdivisions. From Jun. 1-Aug. 10, the country has received 539.0 millimetres of rainfall, 1% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed.  End
