India receives 20% below-normal rainfall at 6.8 mm on Saturday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 6.8 millimetres of rainfall on Saturday, 20% below the normal of 8.6 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two regions received below-normal rainfall and the other two recorded above-normal showers.
Rainfall in south peninsular India was 24% above normal at 8.4 millimetres, the data showed. East and northeast India recorded 10.4 millimetres of showers, 17% above the normal. Rainfall in central India was 58% below normal at 4.6 millimetres. In northwest India, rainfall was 10% below normal at 6.4 millimetres.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall on Saturday was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in two, "normal" in five, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 13, data from the department showed. One region did not record any rainfall, data showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 533.8 millimetres of rainfall, 1% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
