IMD sees heavy to very heavy rains in Uttarakhand, Himachal over next 7 days

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh over the next seven days under the influence of the western disturbance seen as a cyclonic circulation, the department said. The circulation currently lies over Kashmir and neighboourhood, it added.
Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, IMD said heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh till Friday, and Uttarakhand till Monday. Meanwhile, very heavy rainfall is likely over Uttarakhand from Sunday to Thursday, Himachal Pradesh from Monday to Thursday, and Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday and Thursday.
Amid heavy showers, IMD has warned of a low to moderate risk of flash flood for the next 24 hours over a few watersheds and neighbourhoods of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Surface run-off or inundation may occur in some fully saturated soils and low-lying areas in these regions, the weather department said.
The department has advised farmers to make necessary arrangements to drain out excess water from the fields of transplanted rice, sugarcane, maize, soybean, groundnut, and pulses in Uttarakhand. Similarly, farmers in Himachal Pradesh are also asked ensure proper drainage channels in their fields. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are likely to receive heavy rainfall during the weekend, IMD said.
With another upper air cyclonic circulation lying over west Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood, very heavy rainfall is likely over east Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday, and west Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday, it said.
In northeast India, heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh till Wednesday, and over Assam and Meghalaya till Friday, IMD said. The department sees very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday. Very heavy showers are also likely over Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday, it added. End
