NEW DELHI – The negotiations for a free-trade agreement between India and Oman have concluded, a top commerce ministry official said. Only legal vetting of the deal is left, which is going on, the official added.

A formal announcement of the deal may come very soon, may be less than a month, the official said. Oman government wants to prepare a copy of the agreement in Arabic also, so the translation is taking some time, the official said.

After the United Arab Emirates, Oman would be the second country from the Gulf Cooperation Council to have a free trade agreement with India. Oman had a total trade of $10.96 billion with India in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), which included Indian exports worth $4.41 billion.

India aims to sign trade deal with other Gulf Cooperation Council countries as well, the official said. "It could be an individual agreement with each nation or a single deal with the entire bloc, all options are on the table."  End
