KOLKATA – Siemens Ltd. Friday reported a quarterly decline in its net profit, which came below the Street's estimates, for the second consecutive quarter. However, it was able to arrest the quarterly fall in its top line for the second time in a row.

The company's net profit declined by 30.4% on year to INR 3.7 billion as against the Street's projection of INR 4.4 billion during the June quarter and revenue from operations grew by 16.2% on year to INR 38.7 billion but fell short of the Street's expectation of INR 41.8 billion. As compared with the March quarter, the net profit fell by a sharp 45.3% and the top line increased by 1.6%.

During the nine months ended June, the company's net profit declined by over 15% on year to INR 16.1 billion and revenue increased by 4.7% on year at INR 108.5 billion. The Indian arm of Germany-based Siemens AG follows the Oct-Sept period as its financial year.

In a statement, Siemens reasoned that the fall in its profits in the June quarter is on account of lower other income, which declined by 23.8% on year to INR 1.1 million despite the company making gains on sale of its assets. Nevertheless, the company's expenses increased by 17.2% on year to INR 34.8 billion, which dragged down the profits.

New orders during the quarter under review rose by 13% to INR 56.8 billion and the order backlog grew by 8% on year to INR 428.5 billion. Although nearly all of the company's verticals registered top line growth during the June quarter, the profit from its low voltage motors division fell drastically, which impacted Siemens' profits.

"The Indian economy has remained resilient despite the uncertainties arising from impending tariffs, bilateral trade agreements and supply chain disruptions. This is reflected in the Company's strong performance across all businesses during the quarter, including two significant order wins in the Mobility business," Siemens' Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sunil Mathur, said in the statement.

The company's top line from smart infrastructure projects increased by 23% on year and the bottom line grew by nearly 15% on year to INR 2.7 billion. The mobility division's revenue grew by over 37% on year to INR 7.8 billion and the pre-tax profit increased by a whopping INR 163 million on year to INR 172 million in the June quarter.

Revenue from the low voltage motors division grew marginally by just over 1% on year, but the pre-tax profit fell sharply by INR 272 million on year to just INR 6 million in the June quarter. At the same time, revenue from digital industries declined by nearly 5% on year to INR 9.2 billion, but the pre-tax profit increased by nearly 9% on year to INR 988 million.

Friday shares of Siemens closed nearly 3% down at INR 3,031.80 on the National Stock Exchange. The company declared its June quarter results post mmarket hours. End
