India receives 12% below-normal rainfall at 7.7 mm on Friday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 7.7 millimetres of rainfall on Friday, 12% below the normal of 8.7 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two regions received below-normal rainfall and the other two recorded above-normal showers.

 

Rinfall in south peninsular India was 84% above normal at 11.2 millimetres, the data showed. East and northeast India recorded 14.0 millimetres of showers, 54% above the normal of 9.1 millimetres. Rainfall in central India was 48% below normal at 6.0 millimetres. In northwest India, rainfall was 43% below normal at 3.9 millimetres. 

 

Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall on Friday was "large excess" in 12, "excess" in two, "normal" in two, "deficient" in two, and "large deficient" in 17, data from the department showed. One region did not record any rainfall, data showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 527.1 millimetres of rainfall, 2% above normal for the period, the data showed.  End
