MUMBAI – Cummins India Ltd. reported robust performance in the June quarter with both top line and bottom line rising from the year-ago period and surpassing Street's estimates. The company registered the highest on-year growth in net profit in the last five quarters, barring the trailing quarter when it had reported a fall in its bottom line. Revenue growth in the June quarter, on an annual basis, was the highest in the last three quarters.

The net profit of the diesel and natural gas engine and generator sets manufacturer rose over 40% on year to INR 5.89 billion in Apr-Jun, beating analysts' estimate of INR 4.68 billion. Sequentially, the engine maker posted a 13% increase in its net profit. The company's revenue from operations rose more than 26% on year and over 18% from the trailing quarter to INR 29.07 billion in the June quarter. Analysts had expected the company to have earned a revenue of INR 25.79 billion in Apr-Jun.

A sharp rise in the company's export sales and domestic sales also aided the top line in the June quarter. Cummins India's domestic sales rose 25% on year to INR 23.36 billion and revenue from exports rose 34% to INR 5.23 billion for the quarter ended June.

The company's revenue was driven by a growth in both its engine business and lubes business during the reporting quarter. Revenue from the company's engines business rose around 26% to INR 28.59 billion in the June quarter, compared to INR 22.74 billion a year ago. The company's lubes business revenue grew marginally from the year-ago quarter to INR 6.43 billion in the reporting quarter.

Cummins India's total expenses grew nearly 24% on year to INR 23.34 billion in Apr-Jun. The increase in overall cost was largely driven by a more than 33% rise in the cost of materials consumed and an around 28% on-year rise in purchases of traded goods. Cummins India's cost of materials consumed was INR 17.76 billion and purchases of traded goods were INR 2.14 billion during the reporting quarter.

The company remains cautiously optimistic about maintaining momentum across both domestic and international markets with its diversified portfolio that meets the evolving emission norms, it said in a press release. The company reported its earnings post market hours. On Thursday, shares of the company closed over 1% higher at INR 3,674.0 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
