India receives 60% below normal rainfall at 3.8 mm on Thursday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 3.8 millimetres of rainfall on Thursday, 60% below the normal 9.4 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. All four homogeneous regions in the country received below-normal showers during the day.
Central India received 2.7 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 78% below normal, the data showed. Rainfall in northwest India was 61% below normal at 2.9 millimetres, while south peninsula recorded 40% below normal showers at 3.8 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 27% below normal at 7.5 millimetres, according to the data.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Thursday was "large excess" in two, "excess" in one, "normal" in six, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 20 subdivisions, data from the department showed.
Since Jun. 1, the country has received 519.3 millimetres of rainfall, 2% above the normal for the period, the data showed. End
