India week to Wed rainfall 24% below normal at 48.0 mm, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 48.0 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 24% below the normal of 63.0 millimetres for the week, according to the India Meteorological Department. Rainfall was above normal in two homogeneous regions and below normal in the remaining two, the weather bureau said.
In central India, rainfall was 77% below normal at 18.3 millimetres during the week, data from the bureau showed. Rainfall was 19% below normal in south peninsular India at 37.5 millimetres. Rainfall was 29% above normal in northwest India at 63.9 millimetres. In east and central India, rainfall was 26% above normal at 93.3 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in five, "normal" in five, and "deficient" in four and 13 subdivisions received "large deficient" rainfall during the week. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 3% above normal rainfall at 515.7 millimetres, as per the data. End
