Around 2.5 mln farmers enroll for PM Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana as on Jul 31

MUMBAI – Around 2.5 million farmers across the country have enrolled for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana as of Jul. 31, according to a release by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. In Bihar, a total of 345,452 farmers enrolled for the scheme across several districts, it said. This information was given by Ramnath Thakur, minister of state for agriculture and farmers welfare, in a written reply in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The central scheme is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme for the entry age group of 18 to 40 years with a provision of minimum monthly assured pension of INR 3,000 on attaining the age of 60 years. It aims to create a social security net for the small and marginal farmers during their old age, according to the release.
Under the scheme, small and marginal farmers can enroll by paying a monthly subscription to the pension fund. Farmers aged between 18 and 40 years need to contribute INR 55 to INR 200 per month until they turn 60.
The government also provides matching contribution in the pension account of the farmers. The Life Insurance Corp. of India is the fund manager for the scheme, according to the release. End
