India gets 23% below normal rainfall at 7.0 mm Tuesday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 7.0 millimetres of rainfall Tuesday, 23% below the normal of 9.1 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogenous regions in the country, three received above normal showers while one recorded below normal rainfall.

 

Rainfall in east and northeast India was 41% above normal at 13.9 millimetres, according to the data. The southern peninsula received 8.5 millimetres of rainfall, 26% above the normal of 6.7 millimetres. Northwest India recorded 8.5 millimetres of rainfall, 25% above the normal of 6.8 millimetres. Rainfall in central India was 87% below normal at 1.6 millimetres, the data showed.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall Tuesday was "large excess" in nine, "excess" in four, "normal" in one, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 15, data from the department showed. One subdivision did not receive any rainfall Tuesday. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 507.7 millimetres of rainfall, 3% above normal for the period, the data showed.  End
