India receives 6% below normal rainfall at 8.8 mm on Monday, says IMD

--IMD: India Jun 1-Aug 4 rainfall 500.8 mm, 4% above normal 

 

MUMBAI – India received 8.8 millimetres of rainfall on Monday, 6% below the normal of 9.3 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, two received above normal showers and the other two recorded below normal rainfall.

 

Rainfall in east and northeast India was 99% above normal at 20.1 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India recorded 11.5 millimeteres of rainfall, 62% above the normal of 7.1 millimetres. Rainfall in central India was 78% below normal at 2.7 millimetres. The southern peninsula recorded 5.7 millimetres of rainfall, 22% below the normal of 7.3 millimetres, the data showed.

 

Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall on Monday was "large excess" in 10, "excess" in three, "normal" in two, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in 15, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 500.8 millimetres of rainfall, 4% above normal for the period, the data showed.  End
