India received 23% below normal rainfall at 7.0 mm on Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 7.0 millimetres of rainfall on Sunday, 23% below the normal of 9.0 millimetres, according to India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below normal rainfall on Sunday while one recorded above normal showers.
East and northeast India received 19.6 millimetres of rainfall, 75% above the normal of 11.2 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall in central India was 66% below normal at 4.0 millimetres. The southern peninsula recorded 36% below normal rainfall at 4.2 millimetres. Rainfall in northwest India was 15% below normal at 5.4 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in six, "excess" in two, "normal" in five, "deficient" in nine, and "large deficient" in 14 subdivisions. From Jun. 1-Aug. 3, the country has received 492.0 millimetres of rain, 4% above the normal rainfall for the period, the data showed. End
