MUMBAI – Under the influence of multiple weather systems over northwest India, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in the next three days, the India Meteorological Department said. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over most parts of the region till Sunday, the weather department said.

 

Under the influence of the same weather systems, extremely heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Monday, the weather department said, while issuing a red alert. A red alert indicates rainfall exceeding 204.5 millimetres in 24 hours and is the highest level of weather warning.

 

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected over parts of the Western Himalayan region and some parts of the northwestern plains in the next seven days, the weather department said.

 

An east-west trough currently runs from the southern parts of eastcentral Arabian Sea to the southern parts of central Bay of Bengal across south Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the weather bureau said. Under its influence, extremely heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Kerala and the Ghat areas of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday and Wednesday, the bureau said. 

 

Very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala till Thursday, over coastal Karnataka till Wednesday, and over Rayalaseema on Tuesday, the department said. Heavy rainfall is expected over several parts of south peninsular India till Sunday, it said.

 

In northeast India, very heavy rainfall is seen over parts of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday and from Thursday to Sunday, the weather bureau said. Similar weather conditions are likely over Assam and Meghalaya on Monday, Thursday, and Friday, the bureau said. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is seen over most parts of northeast India and the adjoining east India in the next seven days, it said.

 

In west India, heavy rainfall is expected over Marathwada on Wednesday and Thursday, over Konkan and Goa on Thursday and Friday, and over central Maharashtra on Friday. Light to moderate rainfall is likely over most of the region in the next five-six days, the weather department said.  End
