India receives 41% below-normal rainfall at 5.3 mm on Saturday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 5.3 millimetres rainfall on Saturday, 41% below the normal of 8.9 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three recorded below normal rainfall while one received above normal showers.
Rainfall in east and northeast India was 12% above normal at 12.3 millimetres, according to the data. Central India recorded 2.2 millimetres of rainfall, 79% below the normal of 10.4 millimetres. The southern peninsula recorded 2.7 millimetres of rainfall, 61% below the normal of 6.9 millimetres, the data showed. Northwest India received 9% below normal showers at 6.7 millimetres.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall on Saturday was "large excess" in five, "excess" in one, "normal" in six, "deficient" in six, and "large deficient" in 18, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 485.1 millimetres of rainfall, 5% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
