NEW DELHI – The Nifty FMCG index is expected to clock some gains in the coming week, according to analysts tracking the fast-moving consumer goods sector. Sugandha Sachdeva, founder of SS WealthStreet, pegged 55250 points as the support level and 57300 points as posing resistance for the index next week. She is bullish on Dabur India and Hindustan Unilever. "Market is weak, but defensives look to do well. Further, rural demand is picking up...which bodes well for their stock prices," Sachdeva said.
Two of the remaining three constituents of the index will be reporting their June quarter earnings in the coming week. Marico will disclose its earnings for the quarter Monday, followed by Britannia Industries on Tuesday. Patanjali Foods is yet to declare a date for announcement of its June quarter results.
This week was a busy one with six of the index constituents – Varun Beverages, Dabur India, Emami, Radico Khaitan, ITC, and sectoral bellwether Hindustan Unilever declaring their June quarter earnings. Barring ITC, each company reported a growth in its top line for the quarter with a majority beating analysts' consensus estimates.
Following the result announcement, Systematix Institutional Equities revised its target price for Dabur India to INR 565 from INR 535 earlier while maintaining a 'hold' rating. "We acknowledge positives such as market share gains in parts of the portfolio, aggressive innovation and medium-term margin expansion potential; however, subdued growth outlook in key segments limit growth and valuation potential," the brokerage said in a note. Meanwhile, Yes Securities trimmed its target price for Varun Beverages to INR 600 from INR 625 while maintaining a 'buy' rating.
Friday, the Nifty FMCG index ended 0.7% higher at 56197.05 points, rising for a fifth consecutive session. The index has risen almost 3% through the week while the Nifty 50 has fallen over 1%.
