MUMBAI – Telecommunication stocks are likely to move in a range next week, with overall market sentiment and June quarter earnings expected to dictate direction. Among major earnings in the sector, Bharti Airtel is set to report its results for Apr-Jun on Aug. 8.
Stocks in the industry are likely to track the overall market next week, analysts said. Bharti Airtel is likely to move in a range of INR 1,850-INR 1,900 in the coming week, a technical analyst at a domestic brokerage said. The company is likely to report a nearly 39% sequential fall in its bottom line to INR 67.43 billion, an average of seven brokerage estimates showed. However, its top line is seen rising 3% on quarter to INR 491.60 billion.
"Expect (a) modest 2% QoQ revenue (around 26% YoY) growth driven by (Bharti Airtel's) India wireless, homes, and Africa (businesses)...expect 1% QoQ growth in consolidated earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, as (a) good show in homes, wireless, and Africa (businesses) will be offset by weaker performance in enterprise and the absence of prior period reversals in Indus (Towers)," Motilal Oswal Financial Services said in its earnings preview.
Vodafone Idea is likely to move in a range of INR 6-INR 7 next week. The company has not yet announced the date for announcing its June quarter results. On Friday, shares of Bharti Airtel closed 1.6% lower at INR 1,884.40 and Vodafone Idea closed 4.5% lower at INR 6.60.
In other news, Indian telecom operators net added 2.00 million mobile users in June, lower than the 2.10 million users added in May, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Tuesday.
