India receives 38% below-normal rainfall at 5.6 mm on Friday, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received 5.6 millimetres of rainfall on Friday, 38% below the normal of 8.9 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three regions received below-normal rainfall and one recorded above-normal showers.
Northwest India recorded 10.7 millimetres of rainfall, 44% above the normal of 7.4 millimetres, the data showed. Rainfall was significantly down in central India, with 1.9 millimetres of showers, 83% below normal. Rainfall in all the sub-divisions of the region was "large deficient".
In the southern peninsula, rainfall was 79% below normal at 1.4 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 19% below-normal at 8.6 millimetres, according to the data.
Of the 36 sub-divisions in the country, rainfall on Friday was "large excess" in four, "excess" in two, "normal" in five, "deficient" in five, and "large deficient" in 20, data from the department showed. From Jun. 1 to Aug. 1, the country has received 479.9 millimetres of rainfall, 6% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
