Ashok Leyland July CV despatches growth hits 14-month high, up 8% YoY

NEW DELHI – Despatches of commercial vehicles to dealerships by Ashok Leyland in July grew 8% on year to 15,064 units, registering the strongest growth since May last year. While domestic sales grew nearly 5% on year, exports grew 56% on year, according to its exchange filing on Friday.
Ashok Leyland despatched 13,501 commercial vehicles to dealerships across India last month, up from 12,926 units in July last year. However, this marks the Chennai-based automotive company's lowest domestic sales figure in the past three months. Its exports of 1,563 units in July were the highest since February when it had exported 2,024 units.
Sales of medium-heavy trucks in India and overseas grew moderately by 3.8% on year to 6,667 units. This sub-segment forms nearly 70% of its overall medium-heavy commercial vehicle sales. Sales of medium-heavy buses, the other sub-segment in this category, saw despatches grow 42% on year to 2,862 units last month. Overall, its medium-heavy commercial vehicle sales grew nearly 13% to 9,529 units in July.
Sales of light commercial vehicle barely grew by a percent to 5,535 units in July, the company said.
The company had reported net profit of INR 12.46 billion for the March quarter on revenue of INR 119.07 billion. At 1253 IST, shares of the company were 0.7% down at INR 120.15 on the National Stock Exchange. End
