M&M's July auto despatches up nearly 20% YoY; CVs show sign of recovery

NEW DELHI – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Friday said the company shipped a total of 83,691 automobile units in July to dealerships in India and abroad, up 26% from a year ago. Of this, its passenger vehicle portfolio, consisting exclusively of sport utility vehicles, saw despatches grow 20% to 49,871 units in India in July. Including exports, passenger vehicle sales stood at 50,835 units in July. Despatches of commercial vehicles a four-month high growth, showing signs of recovery.
"Our SUV growth has been supported by the recent launch of XUV 3XO 'REVX' Series & the commencement of deliveries for Pack two variants of the BE 6 and XEV 9E models," said M&M's Chief Executive Officer of its automotive division, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, in a press release.
M&M sold 21,571 commercial vehicles to dealers in July, up nearly 10% on year, and the highest growth since the 14% rise registered in March.
Light commercial vehicles with a capacity of over two tonnes but less than 3.5 tonnes dominate M&M's commercial vehicle portfolio. Despatches of these models in India grew 12% on year to 17,701 units. Wholesale sales of light commercial vehicles with a capacity below two tonnes in India declined 9% on year to 2,763 units in July. Domestic despatches of light commercial vehicles with a capacity of over 3.5 tonnes, and medium-heavy commercial vehicles grew 20% to 1,107 units in July.
M&M sold 9,475 three-wheelers, including electric variants, to dealerships in India in July. This is sharply higher than the 3,593 units sold in July last year. This was also the highest number of three-wheelers sold by M&M since October last year.
The company exported 2,774 passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles in July, registering a four-month high growth of 83% on year.
FARM SECTOR
M&M sold 28,708 tractors in India and abroad in July, up 5.5% on year. Tractor exports stood at 1,718 units. Tractor sales are part of M&M's farm equipment business.
In India, tractor sales increased 5% from July last year to 26,990 units last month. "This performance was driven by sustained land preparation activities, supported by robust cash flows in rural markets following the conclusion of Rabi crop harvesting," said Veejay Nakra, the president of M&M's farm equipment business said.
"Additionally, the normal progression of monsoon across most regions further contributed to good demand during the onset of sowing for the Kharif season," he added.
At 1032 IST, shares of M&M traded 0.4% lower at INR 3,192.60 per share on the National Stock Exchange. End
