India receives 22% below normal rainfall at 6.7 mm on Thursday, says IMD

NEW DELHI – India received 6.7 millimetres of rainfall Thursday, 22% below the normal 8.6 millimetres, according to the India Meteorological Department. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three received below-normal showers and one recorded above-normal rainfall during the day.
Northwest India recorded 56% above-normal showers at 10.9 millimetres. Meanwhile, southern peninsula received 67% below-normal rainfall at 2.0 millimetres. Central India received 4.1 millimetres of rainfall, 60% below normal, the data showed. Rainfall in eastern and northeast India was 9% below normal at 9.9 millimetres, according to the data.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall on Thursday was "large excess" in five, "excess" in two, "normal" in six, and "deficient" in eight. Showers were "large deficient" in 15 sub-divisions, data from the department showed. Since Jun. 1, the country has received 474.3 millimetres of rainfall, 6% above normal for the period, the data showed. End
